What is the AVMUG?

AVMUG has served the Antelope Valley for over twenty years, providing an opportunity for members to learn, help each other, and share experiences to obtain the maximum benefit from their PC. In the ever-changing field of technology, it is often hard for an individual to initially learn all that is necessary to set up, operate and maintain their computer, as well as protect themselves from viruses and identity theft.

AVMUG can help you through software demonstrations, question and answer meetings, and hardware workshops. In addition, we have guest speakers who cover a multitude of timely topics. Our aim is to provide understandable information to typical computer users without getting wrapped up in technical details.  Members also frequently receive PC equipment and related peripheral item discounts from selected local businesses. From time to time, AVMUG members can take advantage of special on ine computer user group discounts for equipment and educational materials.

One of the most popular benefits is the drawing held each general meeting, where members have an opportunity to win free software and computer related items. Also, at the end of the year, a computer equipment swap/sale/give away party is held.  In addition, from time to time, as someone upgrades their equipment, they often donate their replaced items to those just getting started.  We also publish and email our monthly newsletter so you can keep up to date with our calendar events as well as timely articles of interest.

The club also provides you with an opportunity to hold an office, and learn leadership and management skills. There are other opportunities available in the club from support positions to demonstrating software, or just sharing an experience or you can participate by asking questions.

Club meetings are held on the Second Tuesday of each month (except December), starting at 7:00 pm at the Antelope Valley Senior Center, 777 West Jackman Street, Lancaster. Visitors are welcome and you can attend two meetings and then decide if you'd like to join. As a bonus, when you join, your membership will include your family members at the same low single person rate.

AVMUG is all about making some friends, getting more from of your computer, and having some fun with the technology. You are most welcome to come and get acquainted  -- why don't you give us a try?
